Heart Surgery Day #3, Update #3

Carson is continuing to make significant progress today.  His sternum was closed this morning and the nurses have been removing machines like crazy since he is now all closed up.  Since late morning, he has lost 8 of the 16 drip lines that he was previously on.  One of these was the epinephrine that we have been working so hard to get rid of.

Another big step is that Carson is no longer on his sedative and he is starting to wake up.  As you might expect, he is still quite groggy, but we have seen some finger and toe movement and even a couple of quick peeks from his eyes.  As the day moves on, we hope to see more and more movement from Carson as he slowly awakes.

Included below is a picture of Carson from earlier this afternoon.

  5. Rejoicing with you as your little man progresses. It takes me back to the days of our daughter Mia's healing from heart surgery and breathing huge sighs of relief each step of the way as she moved closer and closer to full healing. What a miracle and a blessing your little boy is. Praying for you guys all the way from Oregon.

  6. I know we're strangers, but I've been thinking about your family all day and sending lots of love, prayers, and healing your way. Our family will be in your shoes in four weeks, and in many ways your blog has been helpful to read and keep track of. Big hugs and kisses to big sister too, this is a tough time on them too! xoxoxox from California!

  8. All the best for your son ! I hope he is recovering as fast as our son (with DS) did with a similar surgery (ASDI, partial AVSD, AV-channel). 3-4 days intensive care another few days in the hospital. After a week he was back home without any medications. He was also not more tired. No pain or more crying or anything. Only when laying on his belly he was not pushing himself up with his arms but this is logical after opening up his thorax. After a week he did again and was basically again 'the old one'. We were amazed how fast a baby can recover. Your boy looks very strong as well. I hope everything goes well and he will recover as fast ! all the best from Germany (I figured out about your blog via Noahs Dad-blog)

  11. So glad to hear he is making progress! Such great news! I know it's scary when you have gone through such a major surgery and see all of the tubes and lines attached to your child. My son had his AV repair last June and remember it well. He is a happy heart healthy boy today and I know you little guy will start making great improvements each and every day! Bless you all and give hugs and kisses to your little Carson. Saying healing prayers for him!
